AA Region IV : ウィキペディア英語版
AA Region IV
AA Region IV was one of the four former AA regions in the Virginia High School League. At its dissolution in 2013, it was made up of three districts: the AA Piedmont District, the AA River Ridge District, and the AA Southwest District.
The members of the former Region IV are located in Southwest Virginia. It was the smallest region in terms of membership in AA due to many of its prior members losing enrollment and dropping into Group A. Gate City High School, Lebanon High School, John S. Battle High School, Radford High School, Giles High School, and George Wythe High School, Graham High School are some of the schools that have dropped in classification since the 1980s.
In Henry County, Virginia, Laurel Park High School and Fieldale-Collinsville High School closed after the 2001-2002 school year, with their student populations consolidated into Magna Vista and Bassett High Schools. Because of this, in 2007, there was a considerable realignment among AA districts to different regions, including the AA River Ridge District moving into Region IV from Region III. The Piedmont District had moved from Region III during the 1990s. The AA Highlands District was also disbanded in 2007 when former members dropped to Group A and the remaining Group AA schools moved into the Southwest District.
All three of the districts remain in existence for the 2013-2014 school year. The Piedmont and River Ridge District remain predominantly districts of schools classfied in Groups 3A and 4A under the new VHSL classification, which are roughly equivalent to the prior Group AA classification. Group 5A and 6A schools from the former AAA Western Valley District have also been added to the Piedmont and River Ridge Districts.
Carroll County, a Group 4A school, has been shifted from the Southwest District to the River Ridge District. Only Abingdon High School remains in Group 3A while the other schools in the Southwest District are now in Group 2A, which is roughly equivalent to the larger division of former Group A. The VHSL now lists the Southwest District with the districts of the former A Region D instead of with former Group AA districts.
